121: Staying Focused and Eliminating Distractions

Today I’m sharing ways to stay focused, stop procrastinating, and get done what you need to get done.

This advice will help you if you feel like you’re spinning your wheels and not accomplishing anything.

In this episode, I share...

  • Why work can take longer than it needs to

  • Things I am doing to help myself focus

  • Tips for getting things done more efficiently

The advice I have to share is:

  • Reward yourself when you complete tasks

When you do something and get gratification from it, your brain wants to do it again.

  • Just get started

Don't over complicate it or overthink it, just get started and you’ll make progress.

  • Just finish the task

It is easy to almost finish something and start something else, but commit to finishing one task before moving on to the next.

  • Eliminate distractions

Remove clutter, make arrangements for kids or dogs.

  • Drink plenty of water

It is important to stay hydrated for optimal performance.

  • Set a timer

Use a timer to simulate stress or a deadline.

  • Make a to do list the day before

Re-evaluate your list in the morning and highlight the things you have to get done.

  • Set an end time for work

Force yourself to do things within a reasonable window of time.

  • Take a break outside

Daylight helps you refocus and re-set.

Know that you’re going to have off days, but I hope these tips help you hold yourself accountable so you can make progress and accomplish your work.
