How to Hire and Build a Dream Team

In this episode I talk with Tianna Tye about the best ways to hire team members. We cover how to know when you’re ready to hire, and how to make sure you find the right people for your needs.

Tianna is an Industrial-Organizational Psychologist and Leadership Coach from Atlanta, GA. She has dedicated her career to helping online business owners build their dream team.  She works with women to create and build a dream. She was directly mentored by (the one and only!!) Jenna Kutcher, and was chosen by her as a top 10 leader. Tianna’s expertise in hiring, leadership, and virtual teams make her a creative CEO’s secret weapon for managing all things on the “people” side of the business. When she’s not creating content via her podcast TyePod or hosting team retreats, you can find her cuddling with her two dogs and her firefighter husband with a nice glass of Cabernet.

Tianna shares an exercise you can use to determine if you’re ready to hire, called the Daily Work Log:

  • For one week, write down everything you do and how you spend your time

  • Do you have a process in place for each task? Is the process just in your head or do you have a documented standard operating procedure? How long did each task take you?

  • What do you need to stop doing? What do you need to automate? What do you need to delegate?

  • This exercise also helps determine the type of help you need to hire, a generalist or a specialist

MAIN TAKEAWAYS:

  • African Proverb: If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go with friends.

  • A freelancer or contractor can be considered a part of your team without being an employee

  • Include very specific directions for applicants to follow to help reduce the number of qualified applicants for you to review

  • Add an onboarding sequence to your project management tool to bring your new hires up to speed on your brand and business

Are you ready to hire your next team member? Let Tianna’s advice help you build your dream team and generate success for your business!
