124: Effective Ways to Handle Criticism

Being an entrepreneur is hard enough. Having people criticize or bully you makes it so much harder.

Today I’m sharing healthy and productive ways to handle negative comments in your life and business.

  • When to ignore comments and when to address them

  • Strategies for effective communication

  • Ways to keep a positive perspective

My advice when dealing with criticism is:

  • Remember that is isn’t about you

It’s usually a reflection of them or what is going on in their life.

  • Ask yourself if something is true

If it is true, how should you respond? If you respond, take some time before you respond.

  • Write out a response, even if you do not send it

This helps resolve your feelings without making the situation worse.

  • Keep a “happy folder”

Keep a folder or collection of happy, positive things to help remind you of how loved you are.

  • Don’t bend over backwards, respect your own boundaries

Remember that you cannot make everyone happy, no human being can.
